The prompt:
'Space the final frontier' was made famous in the Star Trek series, which also featured one of the first transporters in science fiction. So let's write about space, whether it is outer space (the moon, Mars, etc), the wide-open spaces (the plains, the deserts, Antarctica, Australia's Outback, etc), or even lack of space (tightly enclosed spaces, claustrophobia, tiny apartments, etc).

Samara watched the fabric splitting open and knew she had to act fast. If the tear is small, the secondary oxygen pack will give her roughly 22 minutes. If the tear is too long, she will have only a few seconds to live.
The steel bar punctured the hard outer layer and pierced the skin on her palm. She had no way of knowing how deep it penetrated. She needed a plan. With each wild rotation she took around the satellite, the tear continued to expand. For the moment, her oxygen level was stable.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. When she opened them, the medic was already entering the training module. Her chances of making the Alpha team were over. This was the closest she would get to space.
